19-Year-Old NJ Woman Charged In Fatal Middlebury Wrong-Way Crash

19-year-old Erica S. Weinman, who drove into oncoming traffic on I-84 on 25th of October 2015 and killed a Brookfield man, has been charged with manslaughter and DUI.

On Friday, the teenager was arrested by the New Jersey authorities on a fugitive from justice charge. Other charges included:

  • Second-degree manslaughter
  • Failure to drive in the proper lane on a highway

Her bail was set at $100,000 which she posted and she was summoned to Superior Court in Waterbury on 26th of October.

The accident happened at about 10 p.m. when Wienman was behind the wheel of a 2014 Ford Escape and was travelling east in a left lane of I-84. Her car crossed into the center median and crashed into a 2007 Porsche Cayman that was going westbound. 60-year-old Kevin J. Klein was behind the wheel of the Porsche Cayman.

Klein and his passenger, Susan Anthony-Klein, were rushed to Waterbury Hospital, where Klein died due to life-threatening injuries he sustained in the accident.

Wienman was also not travelling alone. She and her passenger, Brandon A. Findel, were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury to be treated for any possible injuries.

According to the police, every individual involved in the accident was wearing a seatbelt.
