Clifton Woman Charged In Death Of Jersey City Man
The Hudson County Sheriff’s announced on Thursday that a Clifton woman has been charged for killing a Jersey City man in an accident that happened in West New York.
According to Hudson County Sheriff Frank XSchillari, 33-year-old Ana Feliciano was driving under the influence of alcohol and driving at high rate of speed when her motor vehicle collided with 27-year-old Fernando Tlatelpa’s 2002 Acura on 6th of December. She was driving with a blood alcohol content of .10 percent and was driving at a speed of 57 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to him. She turned herself into the sheriff’s accident investigation unit on Monday.
Authorities also believe that Tlatelpa had been drinking the night of the accident but are still waiting for toxicology reports. He lost control of his motor vehicle while driving east on Hillside Road/Defino Way, told by Schillari. He crossed over double yellow lines and collided with Feliciano’s 2008 Silver Toyota Highlander.
The accident sent his motor vehicle through a fence and into the mountainside. He had to be taken out of the motor vehicle and was later pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center.
According to investigators, Feliciano’s speed was the reason of the accident as she was driving at high rate of speed due to which the motor vehicle got out of control.
Schillari stated, “We believe her speed directly contributed to the severity of the crash. If she was traveling the speed limit and was not impaired, she would have had much more time to react and possibly avoid the crash”.
She has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving for the offense committed by her. She is summoned in Hudson County court on Thursday afternoon.
