North Bergen Woman Charged With DWI Near Holland Tunnel

Date: December 22, 2015

JERSEY CITY – 31-year-old Karol Andino of North Bergen, was arrested for DWI in Jersey City with three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The incident took place early Saturday morning near the Holland Tunnel entrance.

Andino was observed stepping out of her 2000 Volkswagen Beetle by Rhett Peppi, a Port Authority Police Officer, at 2:30 am. Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo reported that her vehicle was stopped near 13th and Provost streets.

When the officer approached Andino, she told him that she was “looking for New Jersey.”

“I’m looking for New Jersey,” she repeated as the officer noticed her red and watery eyes.

Andino was also having trouble standing on her own and she admitted to the officer that she had a few drinks.

She was issued a breathalyzer test which revealed her BAC at 0.25%, three times the legal limit. Andino was arrested and charged with DWI and careless driving.

This was officer Peppi’s second DWI arrest this weekend. The earlier arrest was of a Jersey City man who struck a Port Authority vehicle as he tried to enter the Holland Tunnel.
