Raritan Man Busted For Drugs Hours Before Fatal DUI Crash

RARITAN, NJ – A video recorded on 7th of July showed 62-year-old Ronald B. Rebernik being taken into custody after the cops searched his car and found drugs. He was released on summons and a few hours later, he ran over a Raritan borough family and killed a 1-year-old baby while driving drunk.

A cop asking Rebernik if he has drugs in the car could be seen in the video. He admitted that there are 7 bags of heroin. The cops arrested him after they found 8 glassine folds of heroin and 2 knotted plastic bags of crack cocaine.

He was set free and at about 7:15 p.m. he jumped the curb while driving drunk and struck a Raritan borough family that was going to the park to celebrate the first birthday of their baby who became the victim in the accident. The baby was dragged under the vehicle which came to rest after hitting a parked car.

He died at the accident spot. His mother, as well as his 5-years old brother was with him. They both were rushed to a hospital

The charges of Rebernik after the accident included:

  • Second-degree vehicular homicide
  • 2 counts of third-degree assault by auto
  • Third-degree possession of drugs
  • DUI
